When buying for the store, I get a chance to taste an overwhelming number of wines in all price ranges that, as they should, represent all ranges of quality. It’s refreshing when I find a wine for our constomer that is well-crafted and delicious - at a price that makes it affordable for everyday enjoyment. I recently found just the wine and would like to share it with YOU.
I have long been a fan of Sauvignon Blanc. Long before it was found readily on the shelves of stores accross our state. That’s because of the years I spent in Europe, where they caught on a long time ago that a wine should compliment - not overpower - good food; or on its own, should show balance and finese. My Sauvignon Blanc of choice over the past few years have been the grapefruity, citrusy, refreshing ones from New Zealand, especially Marlborough. They are affordable, and easy to enjoy. I’ll also admit that, for years, I found it difficult to find an American Sauvignon Blanc worthy of the caleries it delivered. (There are some exceptions, like the Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc, and others) But American winemakers are now moving away from the herbal, grassy Sauvignon Blanc that they so long were noted for. Now I am finding a good number of American Sauvignon Blanc with a much more enjoyable style. One worthy of noting is Kendall-Jackson 2006 Sauvignon Blanc. Absent from this wine are the grassy, green herbal, and vegetal notes. What you will find is a truly easy to enjoy, fresh, crisp wine that delivers wonderful aromas and flavors of tangerine and peach. It’s great for the lake or pool, and will perfectly pair with light summer fare like fresh fruit, salad, and light fish or seafood dishes.
